Why the Word of God?

  • God saves through His Word. 2 Tim. 3:14-15; Romans 10:13-14.
  • God sanctifies through His Word. John 17:17; Ephesians 5:26.
  • Jesus affirmed the Word of God. Matt 5:17-18; Luke 24:27, 32, 44-45; John 5:39; Deuteronomy 18:15.
  • God Judges by His Word. Psalm 119; John 12:48; Matt 7:26; Dt. 18:15 – listen to him!
  • God proves his Word by fulfilling prophecy. Deuteronomy 18:15-22.
  • God has chosen His Word to accomplish His will. Isaiah 55:11, 40:8; James 1:11; 1 Corinthians 2:6-13; 1 John 4:1-3.

What’s the alternative? 

  • Philosophy, psychology, “the science,” religion?
  • See 2 Timothy 3:13-4:5.
  • “Human history is the long terrible story of man trying to find something other than God which will make him happy.” S. Lewis.
  • How can we be sure that man’s self-delusion is circumvented?
  • How can we be sure that the bias or the weakness of the preacher does not compromise the truth?

Encouragements

  • Rightly handle the Word of Truth. 2 Timothy 2:15.
  • Repent and believe the Gospel. Acts 2:38; Mark 1:15.
  • Join a Bible-believing church.
